Galeton Elementary: About Us

Welcome to Galeton Elementary School

Galeton Elementary is a place where excellence, leadership, and heart come together for students, staff, and families. We are proud to be a National Blue Ribbon School (2022), recognized as one of only four schools in Colorado honored for excellence in academics. This distinction reflects our unwavering commitment to high-quality instruction, strong relationships, and continuous growth for every learner.

For the past eight years, Galeton Elementary has been a Leader in Me School, intentionally practicing the 8 Habits of Highly Effective People to guide our daily work. In the 2024–2025 school year, we achieved Lighthouse Status, a national recognition that highlights how deeply and consistently we use the habits to shape our culture, leadership practices, and decision-making. In 2025–2026, we were also named to the Leader in Me Lighthouse Academic Honor Roll for outstanding growth and achievement.

Our commitment to excellence has been further recognized through the Governor’s Distinguished Achievement Award (2024–2025) and the John Irwin School of Excellence Award (2024–2025), honoring our continued academic growth and high performance.

At Galeton Elementary, we believe everyone can be a leader and everyone has genius. Our teachers intentionally give students voice, choice, and ownership of their learning. We proudly have a Student Lighthouse Team, where students lead initiatives, model the habits, and help shape our school community.

We are a high-achieving school with high expectations for both students and staff, and we believe that true success comes from educating the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally, and character-wise. We actively partner with families to ensure every student feels safe, valued, challenged, and supported.

Beyond the classroom, we offer enriching opportunities such as Ag Club and Boys & Girls Club after school. Once a month, students participate in Empower Hour, where they vote on activities they want to explore, including cooking, robotics, STEM building, crafts, music, arts, games, and more—giving students real ownership in their learning experiences.

At Galeton Elementary, we are proud of who we are, intentional about what we do, and excited about where we are going—together.
